The Play Doh Blocks collection design has been, in fact, the challenge of merging together two very different worlds: creative dough play and construction play.
We all know how fun and free feels to play with creative dough, how fun and magic is to handle that soft matter that instantly triggers our imagination in a very careless way. Well, now imagine how different feels to play with construction blocks: it’s very fun as well and in minutes you can create a construction with a big “size impression”, especially if you are using big sized blocks as – for instance – LEGO Duplo or Megablocks.
However the way of connecting traditional blocks is quite rigid and having the intention of combining them with creative dough made us feel that these blocks had to have something special, something that could be related and consistent with the dough play.
The collection that was born made us feel very proud because we managed to create a collection of blocks that was more fun than traditional blocks AND coherent with the kind of play activities that children can make with creative dough.
The special design of blocks has let the play activity to be enriched by the possibility of:
- attaching the dough on the surface of blocks for decoration
- building vertically in the traditional way as well as horizontally (thanks to the special velcro effect created by the special texture of blocks)
- building creatively in a very free and seamless way with dough and blocks together
