{"id":5029,"date":"2019-01-18T15:35:35","date_gmt":"2019-01-18T14:35:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/?p=5029"},"modified":"2019-01-18T15:35:35","modified_gmt":"2019-01-18T14:35:35","slug":"the-sale-of-toys-in-the-age-of-baby-influencers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/the-sale-of-toys-in-the-age-of-baby-influencers\/","title":{"rendered":"THE SALE OF TOYS IN THE AGE OF BABY INFLUENCERS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you don&#8217;t know the meaning of the term <em><strong>influencer<\/strong>,<\/em> you&#8217;ve probably spent the last five years (at least) in a very isolated place, which may be good, but you should know that are these figures that draw the attention of modern <strong>consumers<\/strong> and to which <strong>brands<\/strong> in every sector entrust their image.\u00a0This phenomenon has spread like wildfire starting from <strong>fashion<\/strong>, with the various Chiara Ferragni &amp; Co. who make\u00a0the news especially because of the <a href=\"https:\/\/fashionunited.com\/news\/fashion\/who-are-the-highest-paid-social-media-influencers\/2018061821823\"><strong>exorbitant cachet<\/strong><\/a> and their constant presence not only on social networks.\u00a0It is very interesting, for the purposes of our story, to start from this fact: according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/#6f455b522254\"><strong>Forbes<\/strong><\/a> magazine, in 2017 the top <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/top-influencers\/fashion\/#5553a50f4552\"><strong>10 influencers of the fashion<\/strong><\/a> industry reached an audience of 31.750.000 people; if you are not amazed enough reading this number, know that their fellow children, so called <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/top-influencers\/2017\/kids\/#e1932452643e\">baby influencers<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, have exceeded them widely, reaching a total of 77.4 million users.\u00a0But what do these numbers mean? Let&#8217;s try to frame the situation in this article, and see how <strong>the sale of\u00a0toys in the age of baby influencers<\/strong> changes.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Influencer_marketing\"><strong>influencer marketing<\/strong><\/a> has reached the boom with the success of <strong>Instagram<\/strong> and, especially in the last two years, companies have begun to invest in the promotion of their products through this platform and to entrust the role of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Brand_ambassador\"><strong>brand ambassadors<\/strong><\/a> to popular figures.\u00a0It&#8217;s the case, among the youngest, of <a href=\"https:\/\/video.vice.com\/en_us\/video\/how-a-six-year-old-became-one-of-japans-instagram-icons\/59236a0fb037e9f91517ae25\"><strong>Coco Pink Princess<\/strong><\/a>, a baby Japanese diva of 8 y.o. that boasts <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/coco_pinkprincess\/?hl=it\">680K followers<\/a><\/strong> to which she shows her daily outfits, mentioning the various brands that sponsors, like a seasoned influencer. This marketing model is particularly effective because it allows to reach the final user in a <strong>direct and immediate<\/strong> way, at least apparently, without the intermediation of signage or television spots; take the good old &#8216;door-to-door&#8217; system, transport it to the current, connected and digitized world, and imagine the impact that this <strong>sales strategy<\/strong> can achieve.\u00a0The key to the promotion and sales through social media is the <strong>tone of voice<\/strong>, simple and familiar causes sympathy in the end user pushing him to deepen the knowledge of the sponsored items and,\u00a0quite often, to buy them.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5033\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/toys-sale-in-the-age-of-baby-influencers-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"914\" height=\"603\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/toys-sale-in-the-age-of-baby-influencers-1.jpg 914w, https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/toys-sale-in-the-age-of-baby-influencers-1-320x211.jpg 320w, https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/toys-sale-in-the-age-of-baby-influencers-1-768x507.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/toys-sale-in-the-age-of-baby-influencers-1-640x422.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 914px) 100vw, 914px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Toy makers do not back out and gladly get on this wagon; think that, according to a Google Shopping analysis, among the 10 most desired <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blog.google\/products\/shopping\/unwrap-seasons-trending-holiday-gifts\/\">Christmas gifts<\/a><\/strong>, 4 are on the list thanks to their presence on <strong>YouTube<\/strong>. This platform is preferred over other social networks thanks to the fact that the youngest use it in complete <strong>autonomy<\/strong>, spending a good part of their free time by\u00a0looking at promotional spots dressed up as video-reviews. According to a survey of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2017-10-18\/toymakers-curry-favor-with-precocious-youtube-influencers?&amp;utm_source=KidToyTesters\"><strong>Bloomberg Businessweek<\/strong><\/a> website, 72% of Generation Z (born between 1995 and 2010) states that YouTube is the most influential social platform and that the purchase of a game takes place following a positive video review.<\/p>\n<p>The direct consequence is that, according to an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.internetmatters.org\/\"><strong>Internet Matters<\/strong><\/a> study, one child out of 8 is a blogger or <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vlog\"><strong>v-logger<\/strong><\/a>; in recent years, hundreds of channels have been born around the figure of baby influencers who, under the guidance of improvised-managers parents or alone when they are in their teens, try to make ends meet and achieve popularity.\u00a0The most surprising story is definitely that of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UChGJGhZ9SOOHvBB0Y4DOO_w\">Ryan&#8217;s ToysReview<\/a><\/strong>: Ryan is an 8-year-old with a follow-up of almost 18 million people and an annual turnover of around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.agi.it\/estero\/ryan_youtuber-4703609\/news\/2018-12-05\/\"><strong>22 million dollars<\/strong><\/a>. Since March 2015, the young youtuber channel has grown,\u00a0involving parents and his little sisters, continuing to publish funny and catchy videos in which they review toys or make scientific experiments; Ryan has become a real <strong>brand<\/strong> that, in addition to providing promotional services for companies, produces its own collection of toys.<\/p>\n[su_youtube url=&#8221;https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=jjd-BeTX6U0&#8243;]\n<p>In analyzing the influencer marketing linked to the <strong>toy<\/strong> world, we must not forget the fact that everything comes from the intelligence and constant work of people who have been able to take advantage of the historical moment by adapting their skills to market demands (we also talked about it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/the-great-charm-of-unboxing\/\"><strong>in this article<\/strong><\/a>), and that to achieve these numbers is needed a careful and consistent planning.\u00a0On the other hand, the theme naturally raises various <strong>concerns<\/strong> related to the &#8216;exploitation&#8217; of children by parents, and to the free web surfing by\u00a0children on sites and contents often not suitable for them.\u00a0In this regard, after several cases that have <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@jamesbridle\/something-is-wrong-on-the-internet-c39c471271d2\"><strong>made news<\/strong><\/a> and many protests, YouTube has created the platform <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/yt\/kids\/\"><strong>Kids<\/strong><\/a>, dedicated to children and with the possibility of control by parents. From the point of view of toy companies this tool has two great advantages: the first is to <strong>optimize<\/strong> the advertising investment, focusing on figures that address a specific\u00a0and very broad target, the second is to be able to <strong>present<\/strong> a toy in in-depth and without time limit, as opposed to television commercials, giving the consumer a more complete
