So far nothing exciting, indeed probably the majority of companies in the industry were born in this way; the difference is that Pixel Press has done so in a &#8216;disruptive&#8217; way: it has made the <strong>design and creation<\/strong> of video games for everyone, even for a child, creating <strong>a toy\u00a0to learn design thinking<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/toy-learn-design-thinking-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-4874\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/toy-learn-design-thinking-1-960x1202.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"962\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/toy-learn-design-thinking-1.png 960w, https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/toy-learn-design-thinking-1-320x401.png 320w, https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/toy-learn-design-thinking-1-768x962.png 768w, https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/toy-learn-design-thinking-1-640x801.png 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The basic idea is to transform <strong>static and analogical<\/strong> images into <strong>interactive and digital<\/strong> games, using tools that are now part of our everyday life, such as digital cameras, smartphones or tablets. By following simple instructions, <strong>players become the inventors<\/strong> of their game, learning a design method in order to exercise both hemispheres of the brain, the analytical left and the creative right. But let&#8217;s go in order and talk about <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/home.bloxelsbuilder.com\/\">Bloxels<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>a toy\u00a0to learn design thinking and\u00a0<\/strong>the latest creation at Pixel Press.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bloxels<\/strong> consists of a physical board, a 13&#215;13 matrix on which to place colored blocks, and a free application for <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/bloxels-builder\/id1041528293?mt=8\"><strong>iOS<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.projectpixelpress.BloxelsBuilder&amp;hl=it\"><strong>Android<\/strong><\/a>. The user (the designers of the toy address\u00a0it to children between 8 and 12 years) uses the <strong>matrix<\/strong> to draw in pixel the various elements of the videogame, from the characters to the enemies, from the landscapes to the prizes, placing the various colored blocks, each one with a different function; every time he completes a part of the game, he photographs it with the tablet&#8217;s <strong>camera<\/strong> and uploads it to the <strong>application<\/strong>.\u00a0Here, in digital space, he can edit, add and define what he invented to complete his story, his videogame. The inventors have created a first game to which the young developers can add levels, use it as a starting point or simply play to understand the mechanisms.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/toy-learn-design-thinking.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-4873\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/toy-learn-design-thinking-960x532.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"426\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/toy-learn-design-thinking.png 960w, https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/toy-learn-design-thinking-320x177.png 320w, https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/toy-learn-design-thinking-768x426.png 768w, https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/toy-learn-design-thinking-640x355.png 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>educational<\/strong> aspect is certainly interesting for\u00a0<strong>a toy\u00a0to learn design thinking<\/strong>: the child does not limit himself to playing but <strong>creates<\/strong> his game by learning (also) the basics of\u00a0<strong>coding<\/strong> through a process within his reach. Thanks to the steps necessary to train the game\u00a0the child gets used to <strong>thinking strategically<\/strong>, to make mistakes and start over to make its story better\u00a0so it can be shared and played by other players. By analyzing Bloxels better we realize that the designers of this toy have designed the <strong>experience<\/strong> by providing the user with a series of tools to\u00a0think as designers and invent their own solution that should not be valid only for themselves, but also for other players.<\/p>\n<p>From a design point of view, technically, what Bloxels does is allow children to\u00a0know the basics of <strong>Design Thinking<\/strong>, a <strong>human-centered<\/strong> design method based on solving a problem in a <strong>strategic and creative<\/strong> way (if you do not know what I&#8217;m talking about <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.interaction-design.org\/literature\/article\/essential-design-thinking-videos-and-methods\">here<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0you can find some useful material). <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ideou.com\/blogs\/inspiration\/what-is-design-thinking\"><strong>Key words<\/strong><\/a> and steps in this process are <strong>empathy<\/strong> with the user, the <strong>ideation<\/strong> of many possible solutions and <strong>rapid experimentation<\/strong> of the result from the first ideas; so it seems to us that we can surely say that this is\u00a0<strong>a toy\u00a0to learn design thinking.<\/strong><\/p>\n[su_youtube url=&#8221;https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=iOI-_3h05WM&#8221;]\n<p>With these assumptions it is not strange that the <strong>launching strategy<\/strong> of this toy has been well designed and has achieved great success. In fact, Pixel Press presented Bloxels on <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/pixelpress\/bloxels-build-your-own-video-games-with-blocks\">Kickstarter<\/a><\/strong> in 2015, easily collecting the\u00a0first goal necessary for the initial development. Having achieved this first objective, in 2016\u00a0they entered into partnership with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mattel.com\/en-us\">Mattel<\/a><\/strong> for the production and worldwide distribution of the toy, becoming a registered trademark of one of the giants of the sector.\u00a0This partnership leads first to the creation of <a href=\"http:\/\/edu.bloxelsbuilder.com\/\"><strong>Bloxels Edu<\/strong><\/a>, a platform dedicated to use in schools, and then to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloxelsbuilder.com\/blog-list\/behind-bloxels-star-wars\"><strong>Star Wars edition<\/strong><\/a>, to satisfy the many lovers of the famous saga.
