Kids start using <strong>technology<\/strong> each time before, spending most of their spare time playing\u00a0with smartphones and tablets instead of playing with <strong>physical toys<\/strong> in the real world. Videogames and online games can be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/category\/educational\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>educational<\/strong><\/a> but they alone can\u2019t teach and improve important<strong>\u00a0developmental skills<\/strong> like motor and sensory skills.\u00a0In this way, it is interesting to consider the <strong>combination<\/strong> of new technology on traditional physical toys,\u00a0<strong>exploring the interaction among analogic and digital<\/strong> to improve the <strong>educational experience<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/attocube_eng.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3435 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/attocube_eng.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"363\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/attocube_eng.jpg 620w, https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/attocube_eng-320x187.jpg 320w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A good example of <strong>combinig physical toys with connected devices<\/strong> is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.attocube.co.kr\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Attocube<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0an <strong>educational toy<\/strong> that have emerged trying to fill a gap in the market as videogames\u00a0have been aging up and traditional toys have been aging down.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.attocube.co.kr\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Attocube<\/strong><\/a> integrates <strong>timeless classic wooden blocks<\/strong> with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/category\/technology\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>technology<\/strong><\/a> creating\u00a0a <strong>smart toy<\/strong> that provides fun and entertaining <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/category\/educational\/\" target=\"_blank\">educational<\/a> games<\/strong> for children ages four to eleven.\u00a0The classic <strong>wooden blocks<\/strong> have all surfaces featured\u00a0with different geometric patterns to create any\u00a0image such as letters, numbers and many more. Next, <strong>these wooden blocks are transformed into smart toys<\/strong> just by clipping a reflector mirror attached to the top of an iOS or Android device.<\/p>\n<p>Using a free<strong> app<\/strong>, kids are allowed to play in <strong>progressively harder challenges<\/strong> in which they place nine\u00a0wooden blocks in three-by-three patterns to match the images appearing on the screen. As the attachment recognizes the cubes the app lets kids know if they\u00a0get a match right or wrong.<br \/>\nOne set of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.attocube.co.kr\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Attocube<\/strong> <\/a>consists of nine same blocks, with each surface designed with different patterns.\u00a0By arranging those 9 cubes into three-by-three square, kids can create more than 2.3 billion different\u00a0images.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Attocube analogic face<\/strong> motivates children to reach their <strong>creative potential<\/strong> through the freedom of play, allowing kids create their own images combining geometric patterns, increasing their\u00a0thinking power.\u00a0It also\u00a0helps children to nurture from motor skills to\u00a0spatial, tactile, dexterity, problem solving, cretivity and collaboration skills. On the other hand, the introduction of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/category\/technology\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>technology<\/strong><\/a> provides brain training puzzle games and interactive feedbacks to help kids concentrate on playing.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This kind of digital-physical connection allows them to\u00a0play physically as they always have, but then also creates\u00a0digital experiences that can be convenient for on-the-go or\u00a0can augment the physical play experience.<\/p>\n<p>Wissink<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Han, <strong>Attocube CEO<\/strong>, explains that the idea of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.attocube.co.kr\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Attocube<\/strong><\/a> borned from parents\u2019 growing concern that\u00a0their children are spending too much time with their heads buried in screens, giving as a result the\u00a0merge of this two products, both of them already familiar to parents. So, with that in mind,<strong> Han<\/strong> began working with a group of <strong>educators<\/strong> and parents on the toy\u2019s design.\u00a0After founding the Attocube company, Han and his team launched their toy on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiegogo.com\/projects\/attocube-learn-by-playing-smart-educational-toy#\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Indiegogo<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/youtu.be\/_t_BnjLsc3I<\/p>\n<p>Looking at the emergence of the <strong>smart toy movement<\/strong> we can see how the toy industry is being inundated with smart toys and this has to do with the new screen time. Toy industry has been taken note and is trying to\u00a0develop <strong>engaging toys<\/strong> that offer kids the best of both worlds, in other words, developing <strong>physical-digital augmented toys.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/playsciencelab.com\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>PlayScience<\/strong><\/a> has been tracking smart toys, and so far the company has noticed two main paths: in one\u00a0hand, physical products that interact with devices like iPads, and on the other hand, apps that can\u00a0control physical objects like a teddy bear. According to <strong>Paul Levine<\/strong>, president and co-CEO of innovation and development company <a href=\"http:\/\/playsciencelab.com\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>PlayScience<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0while the <strong>smart toy game<\/strong> is still new, many companies both big and small are trying to figure out a\u00a0balancing act to <strong>combine the benefits of physical products and digital connection<\/strong>, and there is plenty\u00a0of room for innovation.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Innovating is a process,\u00a0and it\u2019s not easy to capture lighting in a bottle.<\/p>\n<p>Levine<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As <strong>Levine<\/strong> says, we are going to see over the next few years, better incarnations where innovators really start to get the <strong>interplay of play and learning with analog and digital devices<\/strong> much better, so that\u00a0you\u2019ve got play augmentation and that you\u2019re really adding
