Drinking straws or unwanted\u00a0cardboard boxes are a perfect example of low-cost objects<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>that can challenge children to think at an architectural scale and become pilots of their own starships.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/strawbees.com\" target=\"_blank\">Strawbees<\/a><\/strong> has been developed by a company called <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/creatables.se\" target=\"_blank\">Createables<\/a><\/strong> and led by Erik Thorstensson, Petter\u00a0Danielson, and Oscar Ternbom.\u00a0Since this clever kit has been invented, it has been an extremely popular tool to teach <strong>STEM <a href=\"https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/category\/educational\/\" target=\"_blank\">education<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>at schools, museums, libraries and maker spaces.\u00a0Its <strong>endless possibilities<\/strong> and its <strong>mechanical and structural properties<\/strong>\u00a0allow children to <strong>experience engineering principles in real life<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/stem_toys_for_future_inventors_giocattoli_tecnologici_per_inventori_futuri_2.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2434\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2434 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/stem_toys_for_future_inventors_giocattoli_tecnologici_per_inventori_futuri_2-960x720.jpg\" alt=\"stem_toys_for_future_inventors_giocattoli_tecnologici_per_inventori_futuri_2\" width=\"768\" height=\"576\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/stem_toys_for_future_inventors_giocattoli_tecnologici_per_inventori_futuri_2-960x720.jpg 960w, https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/stem_toys_for_future_inventors_giocattoli_tecnologici_per_inventori_futuri_2-320x240.jpg 320w, https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/stem_toys_for_future_inventors_giocattoli_tecnologici_per_inventori_futuri_2-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/stem_toys_for_future_inventors_giocattoli_tecnologici_per_inventori_futuri_2-640x480.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/stem_toys_for_future_inventors_giocattoli_tecnologici_per_inventori_futuri_2.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>With the mission of being a pivotal part of <strong>creative and science\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/category\/educational\/\" target=\"_blank\">education<\/a><\/strong> now and in the future,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/strawbees.com\" target=\"_blank\">Strawbees<\/a><\/strong> has been designed having in mind firstly\u00a0the <strong>availability<\/strong> <strong>and endurance<\/strong> for subsequent\u00a0<strong>minimal\u00a0<\/strong><strong>carbon footprint and waste.<\/strong>\u00a0That&#8217;s why <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/strawbees.com\" target=\"_blank\">Strawbees<\/a><\/strong> is nearly a <strong>carbon neutral<\/strong> <strong>and low-cost<\/strong> product that ensures availability for everyone.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, designers wanted to make <strong>science <a href=\"https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/category\/educational\/\" target=\"_blank\">education<\/a><\/strong> more fun. To educate\u00a0<strong>future inventors<\/strong>\u00a0it is necessary to promote a <strong>trial-and-error based learning<\/strong>. To achieve it they have been supported by\u00a0world class <strong>educators<\/strong>\u00a0who believe in young\u2019s ability to <strong>think freely and out of the box<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/108792795\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/108792795\">Strawbees intro<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/user33282173\">Strawbees<\/a> on <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\">Vimeo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As we can see, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/strawbees.com\" target=\"_blank\">Strawbees<\/a><\/strong> is a <strong>construction kit<\/strong> based on one <strong>simple connector<\/strong> that lets children fix straws and cardboards to each other,<strong> turning ordinary objects into kids\u00a0design<\/strong> and helping them\u00a0to extend their <strong>creativity and imagination<\/strong> using just these simple\u00a0materials.<\/p>\n<p>Even if the system is meant to be completely <strong>open-ended<\/strong>, there is a <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/strawbees.com\/the-strawbees-app\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cBecome an Inventor\u201d<\/a><\/strong> iPad app\u00a0whith <strong>guided projects<\/strong>, taking the user from <strong>understanding<\/strong> basic construction, applied physics, mechanics and mathematics.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/strawbees.com\/the-strawbees-app\/\" target=\"_blank\">app<\/a><\/strong> is based on a <strong>progression path<\/strong> taking the user from a <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/strawbees.com\" target=\"_blank\">Strawbees<\/a><\/strong> beginner level to being able\u00a0to <strong>create<\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.toy-design.com\/category\/design\/\" target=\"_blank\">design<\/a><\/strong> in three dimensions.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It\u2019s great fun to just build randomly,<br \/>\nbut at the same time it<br \/>\nlets you build true mechanical approximations<br \/>\nwith statics\u00a0and dynamics.<\/p>\n<p>Erik Thorstensson<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>You can find <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.strawbees.uk\/shop\/\" target=\"_blank\">different kits<\/a><\/strong> like for example the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.strawbees.uk\/shop\/infinite-kit-us-canada\/\" target=\"_blank\">infinite kit<\/a><\/strong> which changes the <strong>construction kit<\/strong> paradigm by allowing the purchase of a manufacturing machine of parts.
